Back to Eden

Chapter 03/THE SECOND LIFE

The Second Life: Junoxia

Beyond time and space, among floating continents and boundless skies, she learns language, friendship, and life anew.

This is a story still in the making—a story of her resurrection, and of her second life.

Junoxia is a world utterly unlike ASTRAY.

Here, humanity lives upon continents suspended high beneath the vault of heaven, while countless forms of aerial life drift through the skies. Humankind has yet to become the true protagonist of this world: primordial clans, ritual sacrifice, and ancient faiths still endure; beyond the distant horizon, vast states rise and expand, only to decline and vanish again across the long course of history.

Her journey begins with a fall into the Deep Valley and an encounter with the young mage Onda. From there, Eden must learn language all over again, come to understand an unfamiliar natural world, and find her way into an entirely new society. Here, she will experience dependence and friendship, belonging and exclusion. She will also witness with her own eyes the transformation of societies, the progress of civilizations—and, ultimately, their passing.

And at the far end of that journey, she will descend beneath the heavens themselves, venture beyond the outermost boundaries of civilization, and seek out the secrets buried in the deepest reaches of this world.

The rebirth of the body is only the beginning. The resurrection of the spirit is the true destination.

In this second life, she will once again pass through the full course of a human existence: birth, childhood, entry into the world of others, and eventual departure from it; decline, death, and then, beyond them, yet another resurrection.

Eden’s story here has only just begun.

But one day, she will give an answer of her own.
